Dennis’ Angel Biscuits: yields 54 to 60 biscuits

 

Ingredients:

·         5 cups of plain all purpose flour (don’t use self rising)

·         1 cup of shortening

·         2 cups of buttermilk

·         ¼ cup sugar

·         1 teaspoon of salt

·         1 teaspoon of baking soda

·         3 teaspoons of baking powder

·         1 package dry yeast

·         2 tablespoons of lukewarm water

·         about 1 tablespoon of butter

 

Directions:

·         Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees

·         Dissolve Yeast in lukewarm water

·         Sift flour & other dry ingredients into a large bowl (I prefer a glass bowl)

·         Cut in shortening

·         Add buttermilk

·         Add Yeast mixture

·         Stir till all flour is damp

·         Kneed on a floured board for a minute or two (a marble board works best !)

·         Roll out to desired thickness (about ½ inch)

·         Cut with a 2 inch biscuit cutter or the rim of a small juice glass (I use a juice glass)

·         Brush tops lightly !!!! with melted butter

·         Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet on the middle oven rack (tops should be lightly golden-brown)

 

Serve with jelly, honey, etc….also good for making little ham & cheese biscuits !
